FISCAL NOTE

Senate Bill 170 as introduced requires the State Superintendent of Education, on or before July 1, 2022, to submit an amendment to the state Every Student Succeeds Act, detailing the provisions of this bill to exclude the academic achievement of English Language Learner students, from consideration when assigning an academic achievement grade to a school system for the first three years after enrollment of the student, commencing with the 2022-2023 school year.

As amended and reported by the Committee on Education Policy, the bill provides that the academic achievement of English Language Learner students will be excluded from consideration for the first three years of enrollment rather than the first three years after enrollment.
