HOUSE BILL 2273

 

 

 

 

An Act

 

providing for a site study of the marana prison.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. State department of corrections; Marana prison site study; report; delayed repeal

A. The state department of corrections shall conduct a comprehensive study that does all of the following:

1. Determines whether the Marana prison site could be converted into and used as a transitional facility for inmates who are set to be released within sixty days of the inmate's scheduled release date.

2. Evaluates the feasibility of using the Marana prison site to establish a program that provides inmates with transitional skills and that connects inmates to other transitional services.

3. Analyzes and accounts for any current resources that may be used for the purposes of establishing the transitional facility and program and determines what additional state resources are necessary for the transitional facility and program.

B. On or before June 1, 2025, the state department of corrections shall submit a report containing the findings of the study and any recommendations to the governor, the president of the senate and the speaker of the house of representatives.

C. This section is repealed from and after June 30, 2025.
