An Act

 

amending section 23-780, Arizona Revised Statutes; relating to unemployment benefits.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Arizona:

Section 1. Section 23-780, Arizona Revised Statutes, is amended to read:

START_STATUTE23-780. Duration and amount of benefits; definition

A. An otherwise eligible individual is entitled during a benefit year to a total amount of benefits equal to:

1. Twenty-six tWELVE times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is five percent or more LESS.

2. Twenty-four tHIRTEEN times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is less MORE than five percent BUT NOT MORE THAN FIVE AND ONE-HALF PERCENT.

3. Fourteen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than five and one-half percent but not more than six percent.

4. Fifteen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than six percent but not more than six and one-half percent.

5. Sixteen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than six and one-half percent but not more than seven percent.

6. Seventeen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than seven percent but not more than seven and one-half percent.

7. Eighteen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than seven and one-half percent but not more than eight percent.

8. Nineteen times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than eight percent but not more than eight and one-half percent.

9. Twenty times the individual's weekly benefit amount if the unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter is more than eight and one-half percent.

B. Notwithstanding subsection A of this section, an individual may not receive more than one-third of the individual's base period earnings in a benefit year.

C. For the purposes of this section, "unemployment rate in the prior calendar quarter" means the average of the seasonally adjusted unemployment rates for the three months of the most recently published calendar year quarter as published by the office of economic opportunity. END_STATUTE
