An act to add Section 128741 to the Health and Safety Code, relating to health facilities.

Hospital specialties database.
Existing law establishes the Department of Health Care Access and Information, which is responsible for administering various programs with respect to health care professions and establishes various programs to facilitate the expansion of the health care workforce.
This bill would require a general acute care hospital to report certain information related to the specialties on the hospital’s call panel to the department and would require the department to develop and maintain a searchable database of the reported information, as specified, and to make that database accessible to hospital staff.

The people of the State of California do enact as follows:
SECTION 1.
Section 128741 is added to the Health and Safety Code, to read:128741.
(a) A general acute care hospital, as defined in Section 1250, shall report all of the following information to the department:(1) All specialties listed on the hospital’s call panel.
(2) For each specialty, whether it is available seven days per week and 24 hours per day, or less than seven days per week and 24 hours per day.
(3) The telephone number to contact for interfacility transfers.
(b) The department shall develop and maintain a searchable database of hospitals by location and available specialties. The database shall be searchable by specialty
and distance and shall be accessible to hospital staff.
