CALIFORNIA LEGISLATURE—
2021–2022 REGULAR SESSION
Assembly Bill
No. 2459
Introduced by Assembly Member Cervantes |
February 17, 2022 |
An act to add Section 66014.6 to the Education Code, relating to postsecondary education.
LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST
AB 2459, as amended, Cervantes.
Postsecondary education: student housing: data collection.
Existing law establishes the University of California, which is administered by the Regents of the University of California, the California State University, which is administered by the Trustees of the California State University, and the California Community Colleges, which is administered by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges, as the 3 segments of public postsecondary education in the state.
This bill would require the office of the Chancellor of the California State University and the office of the Chancellor of the California Community Colleges, and request the office of the President of the University of California, to require each of their respective campuses that provide student housing to collect and
post on its external and internal internet websites, data on student housing at each of their respective campuses, housing, as specified. The bill would require each segment to annually submit a report that compiles the collected data to the Legislature, with the first report due on or before October 15, 2023. To the extent the bill imposes additional duties on community college districts, the bill would impose a state-mandated local program.
The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement.
This bill would provide that, if the Commission on State Mandates
determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made pursuant to the statutory provisions noted above.
