BILL NUMBER: AB 2459 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Torres FEBRUARY 24, 2012 An act to add Section 53114.3 to the Government Code, relating to emergency services. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2459, as introduced, Torres. Local emergency telephone systems: appropriate use. Existing law, the Warren-911-Emergency Assistance Act, requires every local public agency to establish within its jurisdiction a basic emergency telephone system, and directs the Public Safety Communications Division within the California Technology Agency to coordinate and assist a local public agency to establish that system. This bill would require the California 911 Emergency Communications Office to develop and implement a public education campaign to instruct the public on appropriate and inappropriate uses of the 911 emergency telephone number system. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: yes. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 53114.3 is added to the Government Code, to read: 53114.3. The California 911 Emergency Communications Office shall develop and implement a public education campaign to instruct the public on appropriate and inappropriate uses of the 911 emergency telephone number system.
