BILL NUMBER: AB 2507 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Assembly Member Valadao FEBRUARY 24, 2012 An act to amend Section 5004 of the Penal Code, relating to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST AB 2507, as introduced, Valadao. Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Existing law establishes the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, headed by the Secretary of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Under existing law, the Secretary of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the legislative body of any county or city may enter into agreements for mutual police aid, as specified. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to these provisions. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. Section 5004 of the Penal Code is amended to read: 5004. TheDirectorSecretary of the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation and the legislative body of any county or city may enter into agreements for mutual police aid. Pursuant tosuchthese agreements thedirectorsecretary may authorize employees of state prisons and institutions to cooperate, anywhere within theStatestate , with county and city peace officers in connection withanyan existing emergency. While so employed the employees shall have all the benefits of workmen's compensation laws, retirement laws, and all other similar laws and forsuchthese purposes shall be deemed to be performing services in the course of their regular official duties.
