WHEREAS, An estimated one million scoliosis patients utilize health care annually and one in six children diagnosed with this condition eventually requires active medical treatment; and
WHEREAS, The primary age of onset for scoliosis is between 10 and 15 years of age, with females being five times more likely to progress to a curve magnitude that requires treatment; and
WHEREAS, Screening programs allow for early detection and treatment opportunities that may alleviate the worst effects of the condition; and
WHEREAS, Respected organizations such as the Scoliosis Research Society, the National Scoliosis Foundation, and the California Orthopaedic Association support and promote National Scoliosis Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, National Scoliosis Awareness Month is observed across the country to renew the public’s commitment to understanding and combating this disease, and to recognize the need for increased research and funding to reduce the pain and suffering it causes; now, therefore, be it
