BILL NUMBER: SB 796 INTRODUCED BILL TEXT INTRODUCED BY Senator Nielsen FEBRUARY 22, 2013 An act relating to medicine. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SB 796, as introduced, Nielsen. Medicine: physicians and surgeons. Existing law states that California is currently experiencing a geographical and specialty maldistribution of physicians and surgeons. Existing law states that it is the intent of the Legislature to address these problems by assisting licensed physicians and surgeons in establishing medical practices in areas deficient in physician services and primary care specialties. This bill would express the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation that would ensure that physicians and surgeons are encouraged to retain practices and serve communities in rural and underserved areas of California. Vote: majority. Appropriation: no. Fiscal committee: no. State-mandated local program: no. THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. It is the intent of the Legislature to enact legislation to ensure that physicians and surgeons are encouraged to retain practices and serve communities in rural and underserved areas of California.
