BILL NUMBER: SCR 75 CHAPTERED BILL TEXT RESOLUTION CHAPTER 131 FILED WITH SECRETARY OF STATE JULY 22, 2015 ADOPTED IN SENATE JULY 6, 2015 ADOPTED IN ASSEMBLY JULY 16, 2015 INTRODUCED BY Senators Nguyen and Bates JUNE 19, 2015 Relative to Kindness Month. LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST SCR 75, Nguyen. Kindness Month. This measure would recognize July 2015 as California Kindness Month. WHEREAS, Upon the visit of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama to Orange County, California in celebration of his 80th birthday, the Legislature of the State of California designates the month of July 2015 as "Kindness Month"; and WHEREAS, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has served as a beacon of peace and kindness around the world; and WHEREAS, The State of California is home to almost 40 million residents of varied ages, cultures, ethnicities, and religions who all embrace a foundation of kindness; and WHEREAS, An "Acts of Kindness" Campaign will launch on July 12, 2015, to promote "Kindness Month" among our residents; and WHEREAS, The "Acts of Kindness" Campaign aims to encourage residents to adopt a kinder disposition toward each other by pledging to perform one random selfless act of kindness; and WHEREAS, The "Acts of Kindness" can be as simple as donating unwanted clothes or as elaborate as sponsoring a child in need; and WHEREAS, Regardless of the act, the goal is to instill in our communities the importance of being kind and considerate to one another; and WHEREAS, Clubs and organizations have formed throughout the United States that help foster awareness and encourage individuals to act selflessly; and WHEREAS, Studies have shown that performing acts of kindness can increase happiness, boost one's personal satisfaction, and encourage altruism; and WHEREAS, We believe that this effort will bring our residents closer together, thereby having an immeasurable and positive, long-term impact on the well-being of the State of California; now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, the Assembly thereof concurring, That the State of California takes great pleasure in recognizing July 2015 as California Kindness Month; and be it further Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
