Relative to the North Korean release of American hostages.

SJR 28, as introduced, Stone. North Korea: American hostages.
This measure would recognize the work President Trump did to free three American hostages from North Korea.
Fiscal Committee: NO  

WHEREAS, Three Americans detained and sentenced to hard labor camps by North Korea were freed in early May 2018; and
WHEREAS, Kim Dong-chul, Kim Sang-duk, and Kim Hak-song are ethnic Koreans who are naturalized U.S. citizens; and
WHEREAS, Each of the American detainees were doing humanitarian work near the border of China and North Korea before being detained; and
WHEREAS, Each of these individuals endured harsh conditions in North Korean labor camps, hoping and dreaming for his release; and
WHEREAS, Kim Sang-duk, also known as Tony Kim, is a 1990 graduate of the University of California, Riverside, with a master’s degree in business administration; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kim works as a professor of accounting and business and has made multiple trips to North Korea to teach at the Pyongyang University of Science and Technology, the only privately funded university in North Korea; and
WHEREAS, Thanks to the efforts of President Donald Trump to bring North Korean officials to the table, North Korea has granted Kim Dong-chul, Kim Sang-duk, and Kim Hak-song their freedom and return to the United States; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate and the Assembly of the State of California, jointly, That the Legislature recognizes the work President Trump did to free the three American hostages from North Korea; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for distribution.
