Relative to Áo Dài Day.


LEGISLATIVE COUNSEL'S DIGEST


SR 71, as introduced, Nguyen.

WHEREAS, The month of May has been designated as Asian and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month; and
WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans living in California and elsewhere in the United States desire to contribute to and share their cultural heritage with the City of San Jose, the County of Orange, and other municipalities in the United States; and
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese traditional long gown, known as the Áo Dài, has long been recognized as the symbol of cultural aesthetics and pride of people of Vietnamese descent; and
WHEREAS, To contribute to the people of the City of San Jose and the County of Orange, and to celebrate the diversity of American society, the Vietnamese American community has held a community event known as the Áo Dài Festival; and
WHEREAS, The Vietnamese American community desires to designate a special day to invite all residents of California to share in its cultural heritage by wearing the Vietnamese Áo Dài; and
WHEREAS, Vietnamese Americans now petition that May 15 be designated as Áo Dài Day; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the Senate of the State of California, That May 15, 2018, shall be recognized as Áo Dài Day; and be it further
Resolved, That the Secretary of the Senate transmit copies of this resolution to the author for appropriate distribution.
