AN ACT CONCERNING THE REQUIREMENTS FOR IN-SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That subsection (g) of section 10-233c of the general statutes be amended to require in-school suspensions only when the pupil being suspended attends a school in a local or regional school district from which, during the previous school year (1) (A) two hundred suspensions or more were out-of-school suspensions, and (B) seventy-five per cent or more of the suspensions served were out-of-school suspensions, (2) (A) two hundred suspensions or more were out-of-school suspensions, and (B) twenty per cent or more of the total student count in the school district served out-of-school suspensions, or (3) there were more than one thousand out-of-school suspensions, unless the administration determines that the pupil being suspended poses such a danger to persons or property or such a disruption of the educational process that the pupil shall be excluded from school during the period of suspension; and that subsection (c) of section 10-233a of the general statutes be amended to change the maximum number of consecutive days a student may be excluded from regular classroom activity from ten to five school days.

Statement of Purpose:

To amend the law regarding in-school suspensions so that students who face disciplinary action have a continuity in their learning.
