AN ACT ESTABLISHING THE "SAVE THE STATE" LICENSE PLATE TO PAY DOWN LONG-TERM DEBT OF THE STATE.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That the general statutes be amended to (1) authorize the issuance of "Save the State" license plates, which may be purchased for a fee, in addition to the registration fee, in the amount of fifty-five dollars; (2) establish a nonlapsing account into which such fee shall be deposited; (3) permit state residents to pay such fee by directing a portion of any tax rebate offered by the state in an amount of fifty-five dollars or greater for single filers into such account; and (4) require that funds for the sale of such license plates be used annually to pay down long-term debt of the state.

Statement of Purpose:

To create a "Save the State" special license plate for the purpose of raising funds to pay down long-term state debt.
