AN ACT REQUIRING THE TRAINING OF THE STAFF OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES ON GRANDPARENT VISITATION RIGHTS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (NEW) (Effective from passage) The Commissioner of Children and Families shall, within available appropriations, develop a training program to educate staff about the process for grandparents to apply for visitation rights to their grandchildren who are in the care and custody of the commissioner. Each employee of the Department of Children and Families whose duties concern custody and foster care shall complete the training. Such program shall include training in the requirements of (1) section 17a-10b of the general statutes regarding notification of removal of a child from custody of a parent, and (2) section 17a-101m of the general statutes regarding identification of relatives when a child is removed from custody.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:
