AN ACT INCREASING THE PENALTIES FOR FRAUDULENT VOTING, ABSENTEE BALLOT FRAUD AND VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That (1) section 9-360 of the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty to a class D felony as well as disenfranchisement for voting in any town meeting, primary, election or referendum where the person is not qualified to vote, and for voting more than once at the same town meeting, primary, election or referendum; (2) section 9-360 of the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty from a class D felony to a class C felony as well as disenfranchisement for voting or attempting to vote at any election, primary, referendum or town meeting by assuming the name of another legally qualified person; (3) sections 9-359 and 9-359a of the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty from a class D felony to a class C felony as well as disenfranchisement for absentee ballot fraud; and (4) section 9-358 of the general statutes be amended to increase the penalty from a class D felony to a class C felony as well as disenfranchisement for any person who falsely swears any material fact concerning any qualifications of such person to be registered or admitted as an elector to any registrar of voters, moderator of any election, primary or referendum, or any board for admission for electors.
Statement of Purpose:
To maintain the integrity of elections by increasing the penalties for fraudulent voting, absentee ballot fraud and voter registration fraud.
