AN ACT CONCERNING REPORTS OF CHILD ABUSE AND NEGLECT BY SCHOOL EMPLOYEES AND INVESTIGATIONS BY EMPLOYING SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That sections 17a-101b and 17a-101i of the general statutes be amended to (1) require a school employee who is a mandated reporter to immediately notify the Department of Children and Families by telephone when the school employee has reasonable cause to believe that a child has been abused or neglected, and (2) require the superintendent of the school district employing a certified school employee who is alleged to have abused or neglected a child to conduct an investigation into the allegations of abuse or neglect when the investigation will not impede an investigation conducted by the Commissioner of Children and Families or law enforcement.
Statement of Purpose:
To require mandated reporters who are school employees and who suspect abuse or neglect of a child to immediately report their suspicions to the Department of Children and Families.
