AN ACT CONCERNING VACANCIES IN THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR OF VOTERS.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

That section 9-192 of the general statutes be amended to provide that in case of death, removal or resignation of a registrar of voters (1) any deputy registrar of voters shall not immediately assume the office of the registrar, and (2) the town committee of the same political party as such registrar of voters shall appoint a successor to the office of the registrar not later than fourteen days after such death, removal or resignation.

Statement of Purpose:

To require a town committee to appoint a successor registrar of voters, regardless of the presence of a deputy, in the event of a vacancy in the office of the registrar.
