AN ACT REQUIRING A REPORT CONCERNING PROVISIONS FOR LAW SCHOOL GRADUATES.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:

Section 1. (Effective from passage) The Department of Higher Education shall study issues concerning (1) provisions available for law school graduates living in this state including, but not limited to, career counseling, career placement services and the continuation of education loan benefits, and (2) education loan modification or education loan forgiveness for law school graduates living in this state who are unable to secure an employment position in the legal field. Not later than January 1, 2012, the Commissioner of Higher Education shall report on such study to the joint standing committee of the General Assembly having cognizance of matters relating to higher education and employment advancement in accordance with the provisions of section 11-4a of the general statutes.

This act shall take effect as follows and shall amend the following sections:

Statement of Purpose:

To require a study of issues concerning the provisions available to law school graduates in this state and loan modification or loan forgiveness for law school graduates in this state who are unable to secure a legal job.
