REP. WILLIS, 64th Dist. |
AN ACT CONCERNING THE RESTORATION OF THE HOUSATONIC RAILROAD LINE.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened:
That the general statutes be amended to restore passenger service and improve the conditions on the rail line for continuing and existing freight service on the Housatonic rail line; to insure that the Connecticut transportation master plan includes the Housatonic rail line as an integral part of Connecticut's overall transportation plans and investment, developed in conjunction with Massachusetts' plan to upgrade or invest in their section of the Berkshire line from Pittsfield to the Connecticut border.
Statement of Purpose:
To protect the continuing operation of freight service to the northwest region's five major industries and employers, to protect environmentally sensitive areas that this railroad runs through by improving the infrastructure to prevent derailments, and to operate a passenger rail service from New York City up through our region to support the regional economy.
