Summary

Under current law, property crime victims are barred from seeking compensation from the Victim’s Compensation Fund. This Act will authorize the Violent Crimes Compensation Board to compensate property crime victims for their uninsured economic or pecuniary losses in an amount up to $2,500 upon a showing of substantial economic hardship by the victim. Because the primary purpose of the Violent Crimes Compensation Fund is to ensure that violent crime victims are made whole, the Act will enable the Board to limit the total amount of compensation awarded to property crime victims in any one fiscal year to $500,000.
