Summary

This Bill enables the State of Delaware to adopt the medical certification requirements as part of its CDL issuance program beginning January 30, 2012, as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Passage of this Bill will enable Delaware to remain in substantial federal compliance and avoid the loss of federal highway funds. By incorporating these requirements into Delaware law, CDL holders will provide DMV with documentation confirming they are medically qualified to safely operate a CMV. In the past a CDL holder’s employer monitored this information.
