Summary
This bill would require that one of the parents or approved sponsor of a person enrolled in a Delaware driver education course must attend a Graduated Driver License (GDL) Parent Orientation Program before being issued the Department of Education’s blue certificate. The bill also describes the intent of the GDL Parent Orientation Program, to be coordinated between the Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS.) Volunteer partners presenting at the programs will be Delaware State Police, local insurance claims representatives, representatives from Delaware’s trauma community or Think First Program, and DMV. The OHS will coordinate and moderate the forums. The purpose of the program is to educate parents/sponsors of teen drivers regarding the importance of developing safe driving skills/habits and the consequences if ignored.
