DELAWARE STATE SENATE

148th GENERAL ASSEMBLY

SENATE BILL NO. 9

AN ACT TO AMEND THE CHARTER OF THE CITY OF NEW CASTLE RELATING TO ELECTIONS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF DELAWARE (Two-thirds of all members elected to each house thereof concurring therein):

SECTION 1. Amend the Charter of the City of New Castle by making deletions as shown by strike through and insertions as shown by underline as follows:

Section 6. Election Procedures

(i) On the day of the election, all polling places will open at ~~7:00 a.m., local time and close at 7:00 p.m.~~ 8:00 a.m., local time and close at 6 p.m., local time, for the purpose of voting.

SYNOPSIS

This charter change reverts the times that polls will be open in the City of New Castle back to their original times.The earlier opening and later closing proved to be a burden on workers and the Department of Election and few voters arrived before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m.
