SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 40 |
|
RECOGNIZING MARCH 13 AS "WORLD KIDNEY DAY" AND THE MONTH OF MARCH AS "NATIONAL KIDNEY MONTH". |
WHEREAS, in Delaware, one in every nine people will be affected by kidney disease; and
WHEREAS, hypertension and diabetes are the two most common precursors to kidney failure; and
WHEREAS, additional risk factors for kidney disease include: kidney stones, a family history of kidney failure, prolonged use of some over-the-counter pain medications, and being over the age of 60; and
WHEREAS, kidney disease kills more people each year than breast and prostate cancer combined; and
WHEREAS, kidney disease often has no symptoms, it can go undetected until it is very advanced; and
WHEREAS, a joint initiative of the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations, World Kidney Day's and National Kidney Month's aim is to raise awareness of the importance of our kidneys to our overall healthand to reduce the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the 2014 campaign will recognize the association between Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and aging. CKD can develop at any age but it becomes more common with increasing age.
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED, by the Senate of the 147th General Assembly, the House of Representatives concurring therein, that the State of Delaware recognize March 13, 2014, as "World Kidney Day" in Delaware, recognize March as "National Kidney Month" in Delaware and urge all residents to recognize that renal disease is a serious health threat to this state's citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be suitably prepared and forwarded to the National Kidney Foundation Serving the Delaware Valley.
