Florida Senate - 2013 SB 146 By Senator Altman 16-00202-13 2013146__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to human papillomavirus vaccination; 3 requiring that information regarding human 4 papillomavirus, its effects, and available vaccines be 5 provided to parents or guardians of all children 6 entering grade 6; requiring that the Department of 7 Health approve information for dissemination by the 8 Department of Education; providing an effective date. 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. Beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, the 13 parent or guardian of a student entering grade 6 shall be 14 provided information on the availability of vaccination against 15 human papillomavirus as recommended by the Advisory Committee on 16 Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and 17 Prevention. Such information shall be approved by the Department 18 of Health for dissemination by the Department of Education. The 19 information must, at a minimum, include the connection between 20 human papillomavirus and cervical cancer as well as other 21 cancers and diseases. The information must also notify the 22 parent or guardian that a vaccine is available to help prevent 23 human papillomavirus infection and that the advisory committee 24 recommends that the vaccination process be completed before the 25 student enters grade 7. 26 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
