    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to preference in hiring veterans;
    3         providing a short title; amending s. 295.188, F.S.;
    4         authorizing a corporate income tax credit for private
    5         employers hiring certain veterans or spouses of
    6         veterans; providing a limitation; requiring the
    7         Department of Revenue to adopt certain rules and
    8         establish certain requirements; providing an effective
    9         date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. This act may be cited as the “Veterans
   14  Preference Incentive Act.”
   15         Section 2. Subsection (4) is added to section 295.188,
   16  Florida Statutes, to read:
   17         295.188 Preference in hiring veterans for private
   18  employers; tax credit.—
   19         (4)(a)For taxable years beginning on or after January 1,
   20  2018, a private employer that adopts an employment policy in
   21  accordance with this section may receive a credit against the
   22  tax imposed by chapter 220 in the amount of $1,000 for each
   23  employee hired pursuant to subsection (2).
   24         (b)A private employer may claim credits for no more than
   25  three eligible employees in any one tax year.
   26         (c)The Department of Revenue shall adopt rules governing
   27  the manner and form of application for the tax credit and
   28  establish qualification requirements for the tax credit.
   29         Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2017.
