Florida Senate - 2022 CS for SB 1190 By the Committee on Rules; and Senator Boyd 595-03061-22 20221190c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to two-way radio communication 3 enhancement systems; amending s. 633.202, F.S.; 4 authorizing the use of two-way radio communication 5 enhancement systems to comply with certain radio 6 signal strength requirements in the Florida Fire 7 Prevention Code; specifying that such systems or 8 equivalent systems are not required in certain 9 apartment buildings; requiring that owners of such 10 apartment buildings provide certain documentation to 11 the applicable authority; providing an effective date. 12 13 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 14 15 Section 1. Subsection (18) of section 633.202, Florida 16 Statutes, is amended to read: 17 633.202 Florida Fire Prevention Code.— 18 (18) The authority having jurisdiction shall determine the 19 minimum radio signal strength for fire department communications 20 in all new high-rise and existing high-rise buildings. Two-way 21 radio communication enhancement systems or equivalent systems 22 may be used to comply with the minimum radio signal strength 23 requirements. However, two-way radio communication enhancement 24 systems or equivalent systems are not required in apartment 25 buildings 75 feet or less in height with the exterior components 26 constructed of wood frame. Evidence of wood frame construction 27 shall be shown by the property owner providing building permit 28 documentation which identifies the construction type as wood 29 frame. Existing buildings are not required to comply with 30 minimum radio strength for fire department communications and 31 two-way radio communication enhancement systemssystem32enhancement communicationsas required by the Florida Fire 33 Prevention Code until January 1, 2025. However, by January 1, 34 2024, an existing building that is not in compliance with the 35 requirements for minimum radio strength for fire department 36 communications must apply for an appropriate permit for the 37 required installation with the local government agency having 38 jurisdiction and must demonstrate that the building will become 39 compliant by January 1, 2025. Existing apartment buildings are 40 not required to comply until January 1, 2025. However, existing 41 apartment buildings are required to apply for the appropriate 42 permit for the required communications installation by January 43 1, 2024. 44 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2022.
