    2         An act relating to fire prevention and control;
    3         amending s. 633.027, F.S.; defining the term “light
    4         frame truss-type construction”; providing for the
    5         installation of signs or symbols at entrances to
    6         certain areas; providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
    9  
   10         Section 1. Section 633.027, Florida Statutes, is amended to
   11  read:
   12         633.027 Buildings with light-frame truss-type construction;
   13  notice requirements; enforcement.—
   14         (1) As used in this section, the term “light-frame truss
   15  type construction” means a type of construction in which the
   16  primary structural elements are formed by a system of repetitive
   17  wood or steel framing members, and includes open-web steel joist
   18  construction having any web member that measures less than 2 1/2
   19  inches in width and conventional light-frame wood and engineered
   20  lumber having any web member that measures less than 2 inches by
   21  8 inches, when used in roof or floor structural elements.
   22         (2)(a)(1) The owner of any commercial or industrial
   23  structure, or any multiunit residential structure of three units
   24  or more, that uses light-frame truss-type construction shall
   25  identify mark the structure with a sign or symbol approved by
   26  the State Fire Marshal in a manner sufficient to warn persons
   27  conducting fire control and other emergency operations of the
   28  existence of light-frame truss-type construction in the
   29  structure.
   30         (b) The signs or symbols may be installed at the principal
   31  entrances of locations where similarly designed structures
   32  exist, in clear view of arriving emergency apparatus.
   33         (3)(2) The State Fire Marshal shall adopt rules necessary
   34  to implement the provisions of this section, including, but not
   35  limited to:
   36         (a) The dimensions and color of such sign or symbol.
   37         (b) The time within which commercial, industrial, and
   38  multiunit residential structures that use light-frame truss-type
   39  construction shall be identified marked as required by this
   40  section.
   41         (c) The location at on each commercial, industrial, and
   42  multiunit residential structure that uses light-frame truss-type
   43  construction where such sign or symbol must be posted.
   44         (4)(3) The State Fire Marshal, and local fire officials in
   45  accordance with s. 633.121, shall enforce the provisions of this
   46  section. Any owner who fails to comply with the requirements of
   47  this section is subject to penalties as provided in s. 633.161.
   48         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
