Florida Senate - 2020 (NP) SR 1900 By Senator Broxson 1-02984-20 20201900__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution congratulating Officer Mary Green on her 3 recognition as the 2019 Pensacola Police Department 4 Officer of the Year. 5 6 WHEREAS, in 2019, Pensacola Police Department Officer Mary 7 Green was assigned as one of two school resource officers (SROs) 8 at Pensacola High School, and 9 WHEREAS, during the school year, Officer Mary Green went 10 above and beyond the regular duties of an SRO, serving as a 11 mentor to students and constantly pursuing opportunities for 12 student engagement, and 13 WHEREAS, Officer Mary Green was the inspiration for the 14 Manna Food Pantries SRO Food Program, which was launched in 2019 15 after Officer Green realized that, for some students, a school 16 lunch is their only meal of the day, and 17 WHEREAS, in cooperation with Manna Food Pantries, SROs 18 countywide now keep a box of nonperishable food in their offices 19 to distribute at their discretion to students, and the SRO Food 20 Program will serve as a best practice model for SROs statewide, 21 and 22 WHEREAS, over the summer, Officer Mary Green accompanied 23 participants in the General Daniel “Chappie” James Flight 24 Academy to Tuskegee, Alabama, where her extraordinary commitment 25 to students was recognized by the academy board chair, and 26 WHEREAS, Officer Mary Green has been named the 2019 Officer 27 of the Year by the Pensacola Police Department, NOW, THEREFORE, 28 29 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 30 31 That Officer Mary Green is congratulated on her recognition 32 as the 2019 Pensacola Police Department Officer of the Year. 33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 34 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Officer Mary 35 Green as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida 36 Senate.
