RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Rob Porterfield; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Rob Porterfield has demonstrated that great faith in God and support from
family and friends can provide strength in the face of adversity;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Porterfield drew upon the strength of his relationship with the Lord and
drew trust from His plan after being diagnosed with amyotropic lateral sclerosis
(ALS), which is also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease and currently has no known
cure; and
WHEREAS,
he serves as principal of Effingham County Middle School (ECMS), where the
faculty and students have provided prayers, support, and hope for his condition;
and
WHEREAS,
a graduate of Furman University and the University of South Carolina, Mr.
Porterfield is an avid Gamecocks fan and enjoys going to football games with
family and following Southeastern Conference football; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Porterfield is admired and respected by his nearly 750 students at ECMS,
where he is known to lead with humility and works each day to make the school a
better place for his staff and students; and
WHEREAS,
he has served as an educator at ten different schools throughout his
distinguished career in education and spent 20 years as a teacher and basketball
coach before becoming athletic director and an assistant principal at South
Effingham High School; and
WHEREAS,
due to his leadership as principal, ECMS has elevated academic performance and
expectations, with a 10 percent increase in the number of students who exceeded
standards on the Criterion Referenced Competency Test last year alone;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Porterfield has assembled a care team at ECMS made up of himself, his
administrators, the school attendance clerk, counselors, a parent liaison, a
school psychologist, and a social worker to discuss at-risk students at the
school; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Porterfield has been a resident of Effingham County for 15 years, is united
in love and marriage to his supportive wife, Debbie, and has been blessed with
two remarkable children, Paige and Martin; and
WHEREAS,
in recognition of his contributions to the students in this state, it is
abundantly fitting and proper for this body to honor the extraordinary
commitment and accomplishments of this outstanding individual.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Mr. Rob Porterfield on his decades of sacrifice, foresight,
accomplishment, and contributions on behalf of education in Georgia and
recognize the positive influence he has had upon the lives and futures of
countless young people in this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Rob
Porterfield.
