RESOLUTION
Commending
the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and its Macon Chapter and
recognizing June 1, 2009, as Macon Chapter of the Georgia Association of Black
Women Attorneys Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and its Macon Chapter have long
been recognized for public service and community involvement; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys was founded in 1981 by African
American women attorneys who desired to form a voluntary bar organization that
would focus on providing quality assistance to women and children;
and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys spearheads several programs to
assist women and children, including the "AIM Back to School Blowout," the
annual Martin Luther King Breakfast, and several other programs and projects
that serve the community; and
WHEREAS,
the Macon Chapter has upheld the values and the mission of the Georgia
Association of Black Women Attorneys through its extraordinary service programs
supporting the Angel Tree, the Tubman African-American Museum, the Ronald
McDonald House, and a host of other programs and projects that have provided
invaluable services to the Macon and Middle Georgia areas; and
WHEREAS,
the Macon Chapter of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys visited
the capitol during the 2009 legislative session to meet with elected officials,
offering members the unique opportunity to witness the legislative process
firsthand, and this body was honored by the presence of these fine attorneys;
and
WHEREAS,
the members of the Macon Chapter of the Georgia Association of Black Women
Attorneys have kept the torch of justice alive, and let history record that they
were Erica L. Woodford, Stephanie Woods Miller, Selinda Hansford, Tomieka
Daniel, Tachunta Thomas, Pamela White-Colbert, Angela Manson, Brenda Youmas,
Christine Cruse, Monica Wilburn, Andrea Briggs, Jacqueline Hightower, Cindy
Bembry, Monica Armstrong, Roy Miller, Ira Foster, Samuel Hart, Jr., Emory
Christian, Venita McCoy, Barbara Parker, Veronica Brinson, Uchendu Eroni,
Bernard Snell, Kristie Brooks Smith, and Cristina Meneses; and
WHEREAS,
the Macon Chapter has seen great success under the leadership of its president,
the Honorable Erica L. Woodford, and the stellar achievements and contributions
of these members are worthy of recognition.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys and its Macon
Chapter for outstanding community service and recognize June 1, 2009, as Macon
Chapter of the Georgia Association of Black Women Attorneys Day at the state
capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
Association of Black Women Attorneys.
