A RESOLUTION


Declaring February 3, 2010, as Psychology Day at the State Capitol and commending the Georgia Psychological Association and its members for dedicated service to the people of Georgia; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, psychology is a diverse discipline, grounded in science, and with boundless applications in everyday life; and

WHEREAS, psychologists advance the creation, communication, evaluation, and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people's lives, studying both normal and abnormal behavior and treating individuals with mental and emotional problems; and

WHEREAS, psychologists study and encourage behaviors that build wellness and emotional resilience; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Psychological Association, as the state professional association representing psychologists in all practice, research, and academic settings, works to further the development of psychology as a science, as an applied practice, and as a means of promoting human welfare; and

WHEREAS, currently, there are more than 2,100 licensed psychologists across the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, the Georgia Psychological Association will be presenting "Psychology for Healthier Georgia," a mind/body health fair at the state capitol; and

WHEREAS, many psychologists and psychology trainees will be at the state capitol on that date to interact with legislators, staff, and the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Georgia Psychological Association and its members for furthering the scientific understanding of behavioral and cognitive processes and for dedicated service to the people of Georgia and recognize Wednesday, February 3, 2010, as Psychology Day at the State Capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Psychological Association for distribution among its members.
