A RESOLUTION


Commending the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta and inviting them to be recognized by the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and

WHEREAS, members of the United States Marines have long been recognized around the world for their superior tactical skills, their strength of physique and character, and their ability to complete any objective; and

WHEREAS, the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta is a youth education and service program for boys and girls from age eight to 18 which promotes the mental, moral, and physical development of members; and

WHEREAS, with approximately 80 members and 20 staff, the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta is part of the National Young Marine organization which was established in 1958; and

WHEREAS, the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta provides members with an opportunity to wear a camouflage uniform and participate in group events such as overnight encampments, color guards, parades, Drug Demand Reduction classes, CPR courses, First Aid training, community service, and field trips; and

WHEREAS, members of the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta participate regularly in physical fitness activities which afford them the opportunity to earn awards and ribbons for their performance; and

WHEREAS, members of the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta are taught the dangers of narcotics, illegal drugs, and substance abuse and serve as positive role models to their friends and peers; and

WHEREAS, the mature and self-disciplined members of the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta bring great pride to their families, community, and this state, and their commitment to demonstrating strong character is worthy of recognition.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta for its proud tradition of instilling Georgia's youth with the strength of character essential to a successful and happy future and invite its members to be recognized by the House of Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Young Marines of Metro Atlanta.
