A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police's 2011-2012 Chief of the Year, Anthony Tanner; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Chief Anthony Tanner is highly regarded by the citizens of his community and state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication to the sound principles of law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, Chief Anthony Tanner holds a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in public administration as well as post-graduate certifications from Columbus State University; and

WHEREAS, he is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy; and

WHEREAS, Chief Tanner has enjoyed an extensive career in law enforcement with the Waycross Police Department, starting as a patrol officer in 1987 and rising through the ranks to become the chief of police for the City of Waycross in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Chief Tanner began the Jr. Citizens Police Academy, revitalized the Citizens Police Academy program, and began the Community Response Team for the City of Waycross to bridge the gap between area citizens and local law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, he has received numerous department commendations and honors, including Law Enforcement Officer of the Year for the Waycross Exchange Club and Officer of the Year from the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1997; and

WHEREAS, he is united in love and marriage to Cindy (Wade) Tanner and has been blessed with three remarkable children, Tess Aldridge, Kali, and Anthony Tanner, Jr.; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Chief Anthony Tanner on his outstanding service to his community and the State of Georgia and recognize him as the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police's 2011-2012 Chief of the Year.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Chief Anthony Tanner.
