RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. Anthony Stinson for outstanding contributions to education in
the State of Georgia; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. Anthony Stinson grew up in Garland, Alabama, the son of a Baptist preacher
and farmer and the youngest of ten children; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Stinson had a calling to the teaching profession as a child, creating
imaginary classrooms in his home growing up; and
WHEREAS,
at an early age, Mr. Stinson and his siblings were instilled with the idea that
learning was something sacred, a value they each carried through life, as all
ten went on to graduate from college; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Stinson has spent 28 years passing on his love of learning as a high school
math teacher in DeKalb County, Georgia, and a part-time instructor at Georgia
State University, where he also continues to further his own education by taking
courses to earn his doctorate degree; and
WHEREAS,
he has taught at Lakeside High School for the past eight years, where he is
known for his trademark energy and enthusiasm and for his ability to often do
what may seem impossible; and
WHEREAS,
some of Mr. Stinson's professional accolades include 2006 DeKalb County
System-Wide Teacher of the Year and 2008 STAR teacher for Lakeside High School;
and
WHEREAS,
the contributions and achievements of this fine educator have made him a 2008
finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year; and
WHEREAS,
nothing is more vital to the future of our state than the education of our young
people, and Mr. Stinson has, during his teaching career, exemplified the
selfless dedication and professionalism which are characteristic of our finest
educators; and
WHEREAS,
it is appropriate that this body join in expressing appreciation to Mr. Stinson
for his outstanding efforts and accomplishments in professional
education.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that Mr. Anthony
Stinson is hereby recognized, commended, and congratulated upon his selection as
a 2008 finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year; and gratitude is expressed for
the great credit this fine educator reflects upon DeKalb County and the State of
Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Anthony
Stinson.
