RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Reverend Dennis Mitchell; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Greenforest Community Baptist Church is located in Decatur, Georgia, with a
membership of over 4,000; and
WHEREAS,
Saturday, January 17, 2009, marks Reverend Dennis Mitchell's first pastoral
anniversary with Greenforest Community Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Mitchell was born in San Francisco, California, and grew up in El
Cerrito, California; and
WHEREAS,
during Reverend Mitchell's first year of service with the church he has already
achieved many milestones and has motivated the membership to seek God through a
journey of spiritual, physical, and financial wellness; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Mitchell has played a vital role in organizing the church's nearly 90
ministries in order to promote better accountability and more effective use of
time, talents, and resources; and
WHEREAS,
his fresh perspective and passion for youth education have led to innovative
programs that inspire the congregation such as the Sunday Jazz Brunch program,
which provides an opportunity for fellowship and strengthening relationships;
and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Mitchell's leadership has led to the creation of the Greenforest
Academy Foundation, which provides financial resources for the Greenforest
McCalep Christian Academic Center, an institution that has provided nearly 20
years of academic excellence to over 800 students; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Mitchell's guidance and inspiration has established Greenforest
Community Baptist Church as a community presence, allowing the church to serve
as an advocate for community improvement and involvement.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that Reverend Dennis Mitchell is hereby
congratulated on the wonderful occasion of his first pastoral anniversary with
Greenforest Community Baptist Church and commended for the leadership and
guidance his provided members of the church and the surrounding
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Reverend Dennis Mitchell.
