A RESOLUTION


Commending the Georgia Federation of Republican Women and recognizing March 4, 2009, as Red Coat Day at the state capitol; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Georgia Federation of Republican Women (GFRW) began with the vision of Mrs. Harold McGeorge and Margaret Twiggs after the two toured this state, organizing the first clubs in Atlanta, Macon, Rome, Americus, and Blue Ridge, and the organization held its first convention in January, 1957; and

WHEREAS, the GFRW's mission is to educate and empower women for better government by making their voices stronger in the issues important to women; and

WHEREAS, the GFRW provides financial support and activation of grassroots efforts in electing Republicans and helps train and elect women in office; and

WHEREAS, members of the GRFW have access to valuable resources such as the organization's Capital Connection, political briefings, and the National Federation of Republican Women Magazine which provide up-to-date information on political and governing issues important to women; and

WHEREAS, there are 31 local chapters of the GFRW working tirelessly to promote Republican ideals, support candidates, and encourage service to community and country.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Georgia Federation of Republican Women for its outstanding work in politics, women's issues, and advocacy and recognize March 4, 2009, as Red Coat Day at the state capitol in its honor.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Federation of Republican Women.
