A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Mr. Lewis R. Hamilton; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Mr. Lewis R. Hamilton on March 5, 2011; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hamilton was born on April 27, 1919, in Jackson County, Georgia, a beloved
son of the late Joseph D. and Ivy E. Bridges Hamilton; and
WHEREAS,
he served as a guardian of this nation's freedom and liberty with the United
States Army and the United States Marines, valiantly and courageously protecting
his fellow Americans during World War II; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hamilton dedicated 30 years of service to the public as a United States mail
carrier for the Buford Post Office and volunteered as a fireman with the Buford
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, Mr. Hamilton was an active member of First
Baptist Church of Buford; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Hamilton was a community leader, serving as an active member of the Buford
American Legion Post 127, a member of the Buford Housing Authority, and
president of the Buford Touchdown Club; and
WHEREAS,
he was united in love and marriage to the late Doris Higgins Hamilton and was
blessed with the support and care of his beloved son, Joe M. Hamilton;
and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others;
and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Mr. Hamilton will long be remembered for his
love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, uncle, cousin, and friend
will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Mr. Lewis R. Hamilton and express their deepest
and most sincere regret at his passing.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Mr. Lewis R.
Hamilton.
