A
RESOLUTION
Honoring
the life and memory of Derek Wayne Moses; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens
with the passing of Derek Wayne Moses on March 26, 2011; and
WHEREAS,
Derek Wayne Moses was born on August 26, 1954, in Atlanta, Georgia, a beloved
son of Vera Vivian Thornton and Poldo Moses; and
WHEREAS,
he was educated in Atlanta Public Schools, graduating in 1971 from Frederick
Douglass High School; and
WHEREAS,
a man of deep and abiding faith, as a young child, Derek and his mother joined
Providence Missionary Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS,
Reverend Moses helped many people with their financial matters, combining his
money managing skills with spiritual encouragement; and
WHEREAS,
he also loved to entertain and was a known as a generous host enjoying the
company of others, possessing many friends from Atlanta and beyond;
and
WHEREAS,
he earned a Bachelor of Arts in management and economics from Fisk University at
the age of 19, a Master of Business Administration at the age of 21 from
Columbia University in New York City, and when he was called to the ministry, he
attended Emory University School of Theology; and
WHEREAS,
after receiving his MBA, he worked for Ernest and Ernest accounting firm, The
Ford Motor Company, and the First National Bank of Atlanta, then opened his own
accounting firm, Derek Moses & Company, LLC;
and
WHEREAS, he will be missed and celebrated, but not mourned, by his son, Matthew Moses; his sisters, Barbara Jean Caldwell, Kwana Moses Scott, and Valencia M. Seay; and his aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives, friends, and church members; and
WHEREAS, he will be missed and celebrated, but not mourned, by his son, Matthew Moses; his sisters, Barbara Jean Caldwell, Kwana Moses Scott, and Valencia M. Seay; and his aunts, uncles, and a host of other relatives, friends, and church members; and
WHEREAS,
he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern
for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he
demonstrated to his family and friends were admired by others; and
WHEREAS,
he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness and, by the example he made of
his life, he made this world a better place in which to live; and
WHEREAS,
a compassionate and generous man, Derek Wayne Moses will long be remembered for
his love of family and friendship, and this loyal father, son, brother, and
friend will be missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing
him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join in
honoring the life and memory of Derek Wayne Moses and express their deepest and
most sincere regret at his passing.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Derek Wayne
Moses.
