A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending Mr. Stanley S. Jones, Jr., on the occasion of his 60th birthday; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Stanley S. Jones, Jr., was born on March 24, 1949, in Macon, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones now calls Atlanta's neighborhood of Druid Hills his home where he actively contributes to his state and community in his 60th year; and

WHEREAS, educated in the Atlanta public school system, Mr. Jones graduated from Dykes High School and earned a magna cum laude bachelor's degree in history from Harvard University, a master's degree in modern history and economics from Balliol College at Oxford University, and a law degree from the University of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, a recognized scholar, Mr. Jones received the Rhodes Scholarship and is a member of the Blue Key; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones became a member of the State Bar of Georgia in 1977 and is an active member of the American Bar Association and American Health Lawyers Association; and

WHEREAS, he has worked as a health care and governmental relations lawyer providing decades of service and advocacy while a partner at the firm of Long, Aldridge and Norman and now with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough, LLP; and

WHEREAS, devoted to uplifting the lives of others, Mr. Jones has served on the Executive Committee of the Dean's Council for Emory University School of Public Health, on Governor Perdue's Mental Health Service Delivery Commission, on Georgia Health Decisions' board of directors, as former chairman of the Board of Visiting Nurse Health System, as vice president for public policy of the National Mental Health Association, as founding president of Project Interconnections, Inc., and as a past chairman of the Georgia Commission on Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse Delivery; and

WHEREAS, a noted civic leader and contributor in Atlanta, Mr. Jones is a member of Leadership Atlanta, the board of advisors to the Metropolitan Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the Governor's Roundtable, and is a founding member of the Atlanta Community Court Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Jones is united in love and marriage to his devoted and caring wife, Bobbi, and he has been blessed with remarkable children; and

WHEREAS, known for his wit and unique sense of humor, Mr. Jones is a generous and caring man that makes this world a better place in which to live, and it is only fitting and proper that he be appropriately recognized during this very special and memorable time of his life.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend Mr. Stanley S, Jones, Jr., for his dedicated and loyal service to his family, community, profession, and state; congratulate him on the occasion of his 60th birthday; and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for many more years of happiness.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Stanley S. Jones, Jr.
