A RESOLUTION

Congratulating the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack basketball team on winning the 2009 Class A State Championship; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Wolfpack earned the top ranking in the state through perseverance, determination, and dedication with a 69-53 victory over Turner County High School; and

WHEREAS, the Class A championship title-earning win capped an impressive record of 26-6 for the season; and

WHEREAS, the phenomenal performance of the team is a clear indication of the outstanding athletic ability, the dedication and hard work, and the unity of purpose and spirit of each member of the team; and

WHEREAS, the Wolfpack team of champions is composed of talented athletes Trey Miller, Brandon Reed, Jordan Coar, Cameron Lemons, Chris Lovelace, Price Washington, Josh Cleaves, Gage Diaz, Aaron McLeod, Cameron Baskerville, Shawn Branch, Kennard Backman, Jacob Southerland, and Kris Redding; and

WHEREAS, the astute direction of Head Coach Tyrone Johnson and Assistant Coaches Eddie James and Steve Simpson drove this team of stellar athletes to reach their utmost potential and perform their best each and every game throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, the many Wolfpack victories would not have been possible without their support family and fans, and especially Team Statisticians Barrett Atkins and David DeMoss, Film Tech Anthony Gates, Manager Hayes Mahoney, and Scorekeeper Will McNeeley; and

WHEREAS, as this magnificent team earned its well-deserved reputation for excellence by performing with courage and precision over months of training and competition, it is abundantly proper that they be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend the Whitefield Academy Wolfpack basketball team on their excellent 2008-2009 season, congratulate them for winning the 2009 Class A State Championship, and extend their sincerest best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Coach Tyrone Johnson.
