HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

1780

THIRTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2024

H.D. 1

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO WORLD PEACE DAY.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1.  The legislature finds that World Peace Day, also officially known as the International Day of Peace, is a United Nations-sanctioned holiday observed around the world on September 21.  Originally established in 1981 by the United Nations General Assembly, the holiday is dedicated to world peace through observing twenty-four hours of non-violence and cease-fire.

The legislature further finds that as international conflict continues in certain parts of the world, the recognition of world peace and aspiration toward world peace become more important and significant.

The purpose of this Act is to designate September 21 of each year as World Peace Day.

SECTION 2.  Chapter 8, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§8‑     World Peace Day.  September 21 of each year shall be known and designated as "World Peace Day".  This day is not and shall not be construed to be a state holiday."

SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 3000.
