A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RElating to Electricians.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Chapter 448E, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

     "§448E-    Exemption for high voltage electrical work.  (a) An employee of an electrical contractor duly licensed under chapter 444 shall be exempt from this chapter; provided that:

     (1)  The employee performs high voltage (six hundred volts or higher) electrical work; and

     (2)  The employee shall be qualified to perform such high voltage work.

     (b)  Employees under subsection (a) shall be exempt from the provisions of section 444-9.5(b).

     (c)  For the purposes of this section, "qualified to perform such high voltage electrical work" means a person certified through an apprenticeship program authorized by the United States Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration or department of labor and industrial relations to perform such high voltage electrical work."

     SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
