A BILL FOR AN ACT
relating to early learning.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. The executive office on early learning, established
by Act 178, Session Laws of Hawaii 2012, has a mission of coordinating efforts to help
ensure a solid foundation for Hawaii's young children, prenatal to age five. The office works with partners, families, and
communities, and connects policies, programs, and funding in relation to
health, safety, early childhood education, and school readiness and success.
The legislature finds that the executive office on early learning needs computer equipment and software, as well as phones and phone lines, to support the work of its staff and to fulfill the office's statutory responsibilities for coordination across public and private sectors. The executive office on early learning also needs furniture as the office is moving to a new location at a school.
The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to the executive office on early learning for additional operational costs, including equipment and furniture.
SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $20,128 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2019-2020 and the sum of $528 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2020-2021 for the executive office on early learning to fund additional operational costs, including equipment and furniture, which shall be allocated as follows:
(1) $8,200 for fiscal year 2019-2020 for computer equipment;
(2) $3,928 for fiscal year 2019-2020 and $528 for fiscal year 2020-2021 for phones and phone lines; and
(3) $8,000 for fiscal year 2019-2020 for furniture.
The sums appropriated shall be expended by the executive office on early learning for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2019.
