A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO MOVIE THEATRES.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Act 39, Session Laws of Hawaii 2015, is amended by amending section 3 to read as follows:

     "SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect on January 1, 2016, and shall be repealed on [January 1, 2018.] July 1, 2020."

     SECTION 2.  The department of business, economic development, and tourism shall conduct a survey of the motion picture theaters, that are covered by Act 39, Session Laws of Hawaii 2015, to determine the operational and financial impact that Act 39 has had on the theaters and any other relevant matters resulting from that Act.  The department shall submit its findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2018.

SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2038.

Motion Picture Theater Accommodation; Open Movie Captioning; Audio Description

 

Description:

Extends the sunset date of Act 39, Session Laws of Hawaii 2015, which requires certain motion picture theaters to provide open movie captioning and audio description for certain motion pictures at certain times.  Requires DBEDT to conduct an impact survey.  (HB475 HD1)
