HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

URGING THE Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention System Branch of the Department of Health TO support FUNDing for A CENTRALLY LOCATED AMBULANCE STATION IN EWA beach.

WHEREAS, the population of Ewa Beach continues to grow exponentially; and

WHEREAS, ambulance calls in Ewa Beach have increased by seventeen per cent over the past four years; and

WHEREAS, the last time a new ambulance unit was opened in Ewa Beach was in 2012; and

WHEREAS, the current ambulance unit in Ewa Beach is unable to respond to the increasing number of calls it receives; and

WHEREAS, the sole ambulance unit in Ewa Beach is only operational for twelve hours a day; and

WHEREAS, the only ambulance station currently operating in Ewa Beach is located within the Ewa Villages Golf Club; and

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, the Senate concurring, that the Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention System Branch of the Department of Health is urged to support funding to renovate the former Ewa Beach fire station on Pohakupuna Road into a twenty-four hour a day operational ambulance station for Ewa Beach, to replace the current ambulance station located within the Ewa Villages Golf Club; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Director of Health, Chief of the Emergency Medical Services and Injury Prevention System Branch of the Department of Health, Director of the Honolulu Emergency Medical Services Department, and Fire Chief of the Honolulu Fire Department.
