HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

Recognizing the establishment of the japan-hawaii legislators' friendship association.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii cherishes its relationship with Japan and finds that Japan and Hawaii share many of the same goals; and

 

WHEREAS, the leaders of Japan and Hawaii have pledged to work toward these common goals to build a better future for their respective homelands; and

 

     WHEREAS, Japan and Hawaii share many similar interests and face similar challenges, including the development of renewable energy and the provision of medical care and long-term care for senior citizens, upon which both sides will benefit from collaborative discussion and shared solutions; and

 

     WHEREAS, in December 2013, members of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party from the House of Councillors officially established an association that sought to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Hawaii through discussions on common and relevant issues; and

 

WHEREAS, the members of the Hawaii State Legislature are pleased to host members from the National Diet along with honorable Japanese leaders and dignitaries in the inaugural meeting of the Japan-Hawaii Legislators' Friendship Association on January 21, 2014, at the Hawaii State Capitol; and

 

     WHEREAS, the Hawaii State Legislature believes this historic, inaugural meeting will be mutually beneficial for Japan and Hawaii; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the Senate concurring, that this body recognizes the establishment of the Japan-Hawaii Legislators' Friendship Association for the purpose of strengthening the relationship between Japan and Hawaii through discussions on economic, political, military, and other issues relevant to Japan and Hawaii; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this body supports continuing the relationship between leaders of Japan and Hawaii by maintaining ongoing discussions through the Japan-Hawaii Legislators' Friendship Association for the mutual benefit of Japan and Hawaii; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to Hawaii's congressional delegation; the Governor; Lieutenant Governor; Chairperson of the Japan-Hawaii Legislators' Friendship Association; and Consul General of the Japanese Consulate of Honolulu.
