STATE OF HAWAII

 

 

 

 

 

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

requesting the department of accounting and general services to work with the hawaii emergency medical services association and other relevant organizations to plan and construct the hawaii emergency responders memorial.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is fortunate to have a multitude of extraordinary emergency responders who risk their lives to serve Hawaii's residents and visitors; and

 

WHEREAS, the people of the State of Hawaii are enormously grateful for the invaluable contributions and meritorious acts of service by these brave men and women and are greatly saddened when an emergency responder dies in the line of duty; and

 

     WHEREAS, in 2010, the Legislature adopted a Concurrent Resolution requesting the Department of Accounting and General Services to work with other individuals to plan and construct the Hawaii State Law Enforcement Memorial on the grounds of the Hawaii State Capitol; and

 

     WHEREAS, during the following year, a state law was enacted that mandated the construction of a State Law Enforcement Memorial in the Capitol District; and

 

     WHEREAS, these two pieces of legislation honor those individuals who serve solely in the law enforcement field; and

 

WHEREAS, a diversity of professions fall within the emergency response field, and every emergency responder deserves to be recognized for their tremendous contributions and profound sacrifices; and

 

WHEREAS, with the construction of the Hawaii Emergency Responders Memorial, the Legislature will forever honor the service of those emergency responders who died in the line of duty; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-seventh Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2014, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Accounting and General Services is requested to work with the Hawaii Emergency Medical Services Association and other relevant organizations to plan and construct the Hawaii Emergency Responders Memorial; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature requests that:

 

(1)  The memorial honor emergency responders who died in the line of duty while serving in the city, county, state, or federal levels of government in the State of Hawaii;

 

(2)  The memorial call attention to the bravery and everyday public service that emergency responders demonstrate in the line of duty;

 

(3)  The memorial should be perpetual; and

 

(4)  Private funds should be solicited and used for the memorial's construction; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Accounting and General Services consider constructing the memorial on the Diamond Head side of the Kalanimoku Building; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Hawaii Emergency Medical Services Association and Comptroller.
