HOUSE RESOLUTION
COMMENDING DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE FOR HER INVOLVEMENT IN THE ADVOCACY FOR SELF-DETERMINATION FOR NATIVE HAWAIIANS
WHEREAS,
kupuna also means ancestor and
includes the many generations before us who by their spiritual wisdom and
presence guide us through personal, familial or community difficulties, we look
to our kupuna to help us find
and fulfill our pathways through life; and
WHEREAS,
DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE was raised
in the Ahupua'a O Kahana and Maunalaha during a simpler life by her parents,
Daniel Frances Beirne and Mary Kaliko Kawaauhau Hart with four of her siblings;
and
WHEREAS,
DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE'S passion for
education took her to the Kamehameha Schools, McKinley High School and earned
an associate, bachelor and master's degree from the University of Hawai'i; and
WHEREAS,
DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE worked over twenty years WITH THE Outrigger Hotels, serves as a consultant for Native
Hawaiian Protocol and Consultants Services, represented House District 46 in
the seventeenth legislature (1993-1994); and
WHEREAS, DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE is very actively involved in her
community, served over 10 years as President of Ko'olauloa Hawaiian Civic Club,
and the Hawaiian civic club movement, leading the charge for issues pertinent
to all of the residents in the Ko'olauloa moku, North Shore communities and all
of Hawai'i; and
WHEREAS, DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE served with
the Coalition of Hawaiian Organizations back in the seventies and the Hui
Na'au'ao in the eighties to educate our people on the issue of Sovereignty
known today as Self-Determination; and
WHEREAS,
in 1995, DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE was
appointed by Governor John Waihe'e to the Hawai'i Sovereignty Elections Council
as a councilmember and a delegate representing Ko'olauloa Moku for the AHA
'OIWI know as the Native Hawaiian Convention, to offer a form of government
through an election process; and
WHEREAS,
most recently DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE served on the 2016 'Aha for Na'i Aupuni,
solely to help establish a path for Hawaiian self-determination; now,
therefore,
BE
IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Thirtieth Legislature of the
State of Hawai‘i, Regular Session of 2019, that this body, in the malama of
Kaulua and the rising of the Hoaka, this 6th day of February 2019,
hereby commends and congratulates DANIELLE ULULANI BEIRNE with over forty years
of involvement in the advocacy for self-determination for Native Hawaiians and
offers its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success in all future
endeavors.
